Fire Safety Day

On Tuesday 7th November we had a visit from firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service. They came to talk to us about fire safety and awareness. Each class had a personalised presentation which gave them advice and information to use in everyday life. Robins class were told about the dangers of fire and what a firefighter wears and why. They then had the opportunity to try on some items of clothing and look at them up close. Swallows were given a talk about matches and lighters, smoke alarms, the ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ technique and calling 999. Owls had a similar presentation which included advice about the importance of having escape plans from the home, while Woodpeckers’ talk included information about how fire spreads and the dangers of making hoax calls.

The children had some fantastic questions for the firefighters to answer and all the children had a great time. Later they completed work in class showing off all their new knowledge.
